Almost every mom reaches a point in her breastfeeding journey when she needs to increase her milk supply. Mine came when I was offered the opportunity to go to California for a once in a lifetime church planting conference. The best of the best get invited to this conference and I got to sit in the room with them. I couldn’t pass it up, but I also didn’t have enough milk stored up to last the full five days that I would be gone. To the kitchen I went to find ways to quickly increase my milk supply. That’s when I came up with the best lactation cookie recipe I’ve ever had.
Y’all, these cookies are GOOD. So good that I couldn’t keep my husband from eating half of them. After 10 days of pumping twice a day (while still feeding my baby at every feeding), staying hydrated, and eating these cookies between meals, I put an extra 52 ounces in the fridge. Yes, you read that right. 10 days and I made 13 extra feedings worth of milk while STILL feeding my baby. With that, I had just enough stored up to get my baby through the trip. I truly could not have done it without these cookies.
Whether you’re trying to increase your supply because of a low milk supply, you’re going back to work, or any other reason that keeps you away from your babe, you want it to work – and fast. Look no further. These really are the best lactation cookies AND they actually taste good! Even my husband couldn’t stop eating them.
This recipe is great for breastfeeding moms that need to increase milk supply in just a few days. Each dollop of dough is filled with flax seed, oats, and brewer’s yeast which all boost milk production. Yummy cookies + more milk = happy mom and happy baby! You can swap out raisins for chocolate chips, coconut flakes, or whatever you’re craving. It makes a lot of bite sized cookies (around 4 dozen) but you won’t have any trouble finishing them. The mixture of milk producing ingredients along with the extra calories will have you pumping extra ounces in just a couple of days. Try these lactation cookies out and see for yourself. Best wishes, mama!

Time needed: 30 minutes.
Oatmeal Raisin Lactation Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350º.
- Mix 2tbs of flaxseed meal with 4tbs of water.
Let sit for 3-5 minutes.
- Beat 1 cup of butter, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of firmly pressed brown sugar well.
- Add 2 eggs and mix well.
- Add the flaxseed mix and 1tsp of vanilla, beat well.
Set aside.
- Sift together 3 cups of flour, 2-4 tablespoons of brewers yeast, 1 tsp of baking soda, and 1 tsp of salt.
- Add dry ingredients to butter mix.
- Stir in 3 cups of oats and 1 cup raisins.
I personally love oatmeal raisin cookies, but I know it’s not everyones thing. If you don’t like raisins, swap them out for chocolate chips! You could also add coconut flakes. Add in what you love, it’s your treat.
- Scoop onto baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 minutes.
- Let them set for a few minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
Tip: Brewer’s Yeast can be tricky to find. It is available at most health stores and you can find it here on Amazon. It has a nutty/bitter taste so use less if you find you dislike the taste or try this unflavored one. I use the full 4 tablespoons and can not taste the difference.
